Something interesting popped up by way of a quick chat about The Guardian the other day – have you seen the amount of staff they have for their Edinburgh Fringe podcasts?
According to Guardian Edinburgh the team they have for covering the festival includes @AndyDickson, @MrBrianLogan, @Chiggi, @PaulMac, @ChrisWiegand, @LynGardner, @Laura_Barnett, @MarkFFisher + 3/4 extras (and their head of audio Matt Wells) which made me go a) bloody hell and b) how come Ewan Spence’s one-man band podcast is better (but in fairness, YMMV – some prefer Ewan, some prefer The Guardian. I think Ewan just comes across as more relaxed and chummy, making it a better listen).*
But I can’t think of a time when The Guardian has had that many reporters in Scotland for news or features. At the moment I think there’s two reporters for The Guardian and The Observer (for print) and zero of an online team (way to show committment to a country guys!) but there’s a cast of millions nine for covering arts and a festival?
Note to The Guardian – Scotland: not just here in August. And puppies aren’t just for Christmas.
* On that note, I notice Ewan and The Stage had some fun with The Guardian guys last week, but The Guardian seems to have taken the huff well and truly with him/them. I understand he contacted the people at the paper to say ‘look, this is all just banter but let’s do something fun that benefits us all’ and no one got back to him. I was hoping they could swap over for a day or have a drinking contest. Or both. Or have they bottled it?
