As a blogger on the receiving end of a growing pile of press releases, I concur that it's not a good route to success. Individual blogs have a feel, an atmosphere, so if an announcement or press release catches my eye, as a blogger I'll want to twist it to fit my blog - otherwise the post will just look like an advertisment.

That means that I'll want info, might want a quick email exchange to ask some questions not covered in supplied material, and will do some leg work myself - via Google, and other blogs to figure out the skinny on what I'm being told.

The good news is that if I'm not impressed by what I see, I'm very unlikely to rip it to shreds - more likely, I'll just ignore it and you'll get no mention rather than a bad mention!

Well you read most of it! :-) Seriously though, I only had wife in as it rhymed well with the rest of the sentence, but for those who may take offence out there and think I'm a sexist pig, I'll go add "husband, lover, partner".

Good advice!

I agree that this is a debate about mutual respect and understanding and not a stand off.
