Looking at a lot of the general – and some specialist – talk over the last week or so (easily googleable so no need for links) there’s that old common moan popping up: “so much for global warming when it just seems colder than ever” with various freezings and temperature lows being pointed out (while conveniently ignoring floods which may be caused by rising water levels due to polar melting).

But it got me thinking: is the main problem with trying to win people over the fact that it is called “global warming” when for most people it’s actually doing the opposite?

“Global freezing” would be inaccurate, so is there another phrase that could suggest the temperature in a relatively emotive sense (as global warming does – “climate change” is one of the most neutral phrases known to man)?
