The first Scottish Social Media Dinner was a bit generic with chats on podcasting, SEO and why Santa shouldn’t use social media, the second one is a bit more themed and the theme is one relevant to many… the future of the press and the timing couldn’t be better for the speakers we have…
Taking place in Glasgow on Thursday, January 28 (venue to be announced) we will have the following speakers:

Iain Hepburn was Scotland’s inaugral Digital Journalist of the Year for his role in revitalising the online efforts of the Daily Record, Sunday Mail and Glaswegian. Based in Glasgow, he is one of Scotland’s few dedicated Digital Editors and prior to the Record, he was one of the online team at The Mirror and also Future Publishing.
Ewan Spence is well-known not only for his role as co-founder of online news venture The Daily Dust, but a keen podcaster and does some of the funniest technology video reviews YouTube has, treating unboxing with all the pomp it deserves. The Dust pulls in a considerable audience and, along with Net News Daily, was one of Scotland’s vanguards in online-only news sites.
Stewart Kirkpatrick made The Scotsman.com website a global success and then found himself out of a job. He’s since made a success of himself on the other side of the digital fence working for marketing company W00tonomy and recently announced a return to editorship with an (as yet) unannounced title.
Now the date’s also been picked for a reason: that’s the week Stewart’s new title launches but it’s also the day after Apple announces what many believe will be dubbed the iSlate. Many people also seem to think that the iSlate will do for news media sales what the resent snow did for salt and shovel sales.
So we’ll have the people who have made a success of digital news in a country which is still quite shy about all things digital talking not only about the hurdles and successes they’ve faced, but what lies ahead in the future.
The event will run similar to before (each person gets 10 mins to talk in between courses) with the added bonus of the host staying for the full night (touch wood). The entry price will cover your meal, will be below £20 for sure, details of venue will be announced by Friday.

Alot of bloggers are not too happy with this new iPad.There was too much hoopla about it and lots of people got disapointed.Thing is, I for one see some of the cool potential uses of this gadget. Third-party apps for composing tunes, games, papers and magazines and FFS books, tons of good stuff, but they failed to sell it right (excluding the books). It smells sort of incomplete
