Taking place in Glasgow on Thursday, January 28 at Sloans (some of you will see the irony in that I’m sure) the 2nd Scottish Social Media Dinner will have the following speakers:

Iain Hepburn was Scotland’s 2009 Digital Journalist of the Year for his role in revitalising the online efforts of the Daily Record, Sunday Mail and Glaswegian. Based in Glasgow, he is one of Scotland’s few dedicated Digital Editors and prior to the Record, he was one of the online team at The Mirror and also Future Publishing.

Ewan Spence is well-known not only for his role as co-founder of online news venture The Daily Dust, but a keen podcaster and does some of the funniest technology video reviews YouTube has, treating unboxing with all the pomp it deserves. The Dust pulls in a considerable audience and, along with Net News Daily, is one of Scotland’s vanguards in online-only news sites.

Stewart Kirkpatrick made The Scotsman.com website a global success and then found himself out of a job. He’s since made a success of himself on the other side of the digital fence working for marketing company W00tonomy and recently announced a return to editorship with an (as yet) unannounced title.

Now the date’s also been picked for a reason: that’s the week Stewart’s new title launches but it’s also the day after Apple announces what many believe will be dubbed the iSlate. Many people also seem to think that the iSlate will do for news media sales what the recent snow did for salt and shovel sales.

So we’ll have the people who have made a success of digital news in a country which is still quite shy about all things digital talking not only about the hurdles and successes they’ve faced, but what lies ahead in the future.

Each person will talk for approx 10-15mins with a Q&A session. Everyone is more than welcome to linger on afterwards too, which is what happened the last time.

To get a ticket, click on the box above or below. I apologise for the cost at £22 being a bit higher than expected. This is due to venue costs and Paypal fees, but I’m working on there being a goody bag to at least make it more worthwhile for those who attend. Also, this time the menu will feature a choice of dishes. The event will start at 6pm (giving Edinburgh people a better chance of getting through).

Please note that Sloans requires numbers for the event one week beforehand, therefore the tickets will only be on sale until 5pm Thursday January 21.

UPDATE: Some people seem to have problems with the link above, so here’s a more direct one.

Just to note that the top [Add to Cart] button didn’t actually do that for me (took me just to my account) – the bottom one works fine.
