At heart, a lot of social media for businesses is about basic, good customer service (and while that may sound simple you would be shocked at how many don’t get it). So it was interesting to see a recent case with Bulldog Natural Grooming where they went – in my opinion – above and beyond.

It was tweeted that a customer was struggling to find their product. The company (@bulldognatural) tweeted back that it was sorry that was the case and offered an online store discount.

Now the discount was a nice touch, but that’s not where the company did good.

A few minutes later the company tweeted again, saying that they had called a few places and found a place in Glasgow which still had stock on sale.

That’s the extra mile. All for a £3.50 bottle of shower gel. And all of this happened in the space of about an hour – from start to finish.

That’s caring about your customers. Quick response and going and finding them helpful information.

Also, go have a look at that front page – how 2.0 is that? Yet it’s all informative.

Never heard of these guys before, but I’ll definitely have a look at them next time I need some shower gel…

Great to see someone picking up on @bulldognatural as a great example of how to use social media. Yes, they offer fantastic customer service but they also post interesting tweets which show their personality, ( April Fools stunt) and take the time to really listen, as well as talk to their audience. The best bit is that they are a small business managing to grow in this difficult economic climate and their approach to social media is both personal & refreshing. Definitely a company worth watching!
