Lost. A show with an ending that certainly divided people (I know I spoke about it at length on The Thumbcast site and podcasts) and then it was revealed that there would be an extra 12-minute coda to the series in the final box set.

Review copies just went out. And as expected, it’s everywhere online. And you know what? I think it’s deliberate for a few reasons…

Original Video – More videos at TinyPic

Here’s why I think this is deliberate, but if you have other thoughts feel free to share them:

  1. This show managed to keep a lot of secrets hush-hush until broadcast right up until the end so how did this get out?
  2. This coda appears to have been sent to half the world to review, increasing odds of a leak
  3. By letting the fans see this for free – so early before the release date – it may negate their anger and people who weren’t going to buy it, now buy it because they are happier with the conclusion. The leak is a way of damage minimising/relationship building
  4. This early a leak will have fans debating issues until the box set release, said debate may drive sales
  5. This  has come out on a Friday so the odds are that even if takedown notices are sent out, it won’t be until next week. Then when the video disappears, there’s more chat and buzz over it because some will have seen it and others won’t have
