Interesting little comment from the founders of the smash hit Angry Birds game that shows one possible way PR will be evolving for the smarter, more connected social media and PR operators….

Last December, we did the obligatory predictions for 2010 in social media and PR – but how did we do?

After the jump, there’s a huge graphic but have a read and then see why the rise of tablets like the iPad and Samsung Galaxy are great opportunities for PR, social media, digital marketing and brand engagement…
We’ve been a bit lax here recently with the Friday Fun PR Challenge but we’re back (and yes, there’s prizes) and to get everyone’s brain thinking of a puzzler, here’s one from us – the Zerg in the hit Starcraft and Starcraft 2 game are the least popular race out of the three – Terran, Protoss and Zerg.
Now why’s that? Do people identify with being human and like going the uber-powerful Protoss while the Zerg fall down in the middle? Or are they just too damn ugly?

If I have an iPad and an iPhone – or two iPads – in a car or nearby each other, can I play a game against my friend without a wireless base station nearby? Can the two machines just play against each other? Or will that need the 3G model?
You know the format – what one thinks are going to be issues in the coming months for digital PR and social media. So with that… let’s look at how PR, gaming and social media are all going to come together – and why the iPhone will become the ChavPhone for some.
You’ll recall I was offering free PR and Social Media advice in Dundee on Thursday, October 8. Well the venue can now be revealed.
As anyone who knows me will know, I find it embarassing that the successes of the industries based around Dundee – biosciences and gaming especially – don’t get the recognition that they deserve in wider circles, including the mainstream press.
To that end, I’m coming up to Dundee next Thursday, October 8 to offer a free full day surgery.
Here’s how it will work: I’m going to go somwhere with free wifi (will announce venue before the day) and I’ll set up the laptop and get on with my work. If anyone wants to drop by, buy me me a coffee/tea/something and chat about what their company does/media and public relations then I’ll happily offer some ideas and insight free of charge.
I won’t do you written reports or PR plans or anything like that. You want that, you engage me on some kind of fee, but for the meeting, you can pick my brains and I’ll give you any ideas and do’s/don’ts that I can think of, so it’s free one-to-one advice (or one-to-how many you bring along) that you can write down/record.
Unless companies state otherwise, I’ll tweet that I’ve met them (and perhaps mention them in a blog post) but I’m also more than happy to sign NDA’s for anyone looking to protect upcoming releases/IP.
I haven’t picked a venue yet (I’ll announce it when I do) and if anyone wants to prebook a time then get in touch via the contact form.
MobileCrunch has posted a thumper of a must-read PR tale exposing Reverb Communication’s documents that they post fake reviews in online arenas including Apple’s iPhone App Store. Full credit to MobileCrunch for doing a thumping journalism job on following the trails and pulling it all together. It’s a must-read for an example of a great expose of astroturfing, which can come under black ops PR.
But hang on a minute, aren’t the PR firm just doing their job? Or is this a PR Crisis for a Tech/Digital PR company and a case of bad PR ethics?

For those not in the know, BlizzCon is the annual gathering held by Blizzard, the games company behind little-known games such as Starcraft (still huge in South Korea – it has TV shows about it. And that’s more than 10 years after release), Diablo and World of Warcraft. It’s an event that generates tons of PR without doing the big (and fantastic) stunts like Monument PR did for the launch of Resident Evil 5 in London) and one of the things that Blizzard always put out is a fantastic goody bag.
