twitter and tweeting/microblogging

a liitle bird tells me...

Do you Tweet? Are you a Twat? Twitter, along with Facebook and MySpace has been a communications phenomenon of the early 21st Century.

It's only 140 characters but it's a very powerful and personal way of reaching out to people and it's for everyone - companies and individuals alike. Dell has cited Twitter as being responsible for million of dollars of sales - because the right people told them how to use it.

But it's something that's very easy to do wrong. Habitat was blasted for getting it wrong, companies are sacking people for it - even the likes of the Miami Dophins are cracking down on it.

Using it wrong can make you look like an idiot and cost you customers and friends. Using it wisely can take your brand to a new audience, be part of your SEO and deepen customer relationships.

But using Twitter and microblogging services like it (you could even count Facebook's updates as microblogging) can also be a legal minefield for companies. Are staff allowed to use it at work? Should they be allowed to use it at work? Out of hours are they allowed to mention their work by name?

These are all issues companies need to be mindful of. Fortunately, there's people out there to help guide them if needed.
